- Minutes:
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, now we'll start
- we'll try to do this informal like, if it doesn't get too messy..
- and ga when you are done
- but first...
-
- i'll comment on warps, so we can dispense with that issue
- I know everyone is unhappy about warps, *I* am unhappy about warps...
- and we're working on them as fast as we can. ...
- basically what happened is that a new scheme we put into this version ...
- seemed to work pretty well in the beta, but when we get it into ...
- a live situation with folks from all over and so on...
- it didn't work like we wanted it to. ...
- SO ...
- we've made a number of changes in the past 2 days, on the host. ...
- if you see warping TONIGHT, that means something to me ...
- warping you saw over the weekend is something we know all about :(
- what you might still see ...
- is that some flights will be good, and others not so good
- it depends on how the host and the micro hook up to each other ...
- when they take off ...
- so if you see warping on radar when you are on the runway ...
- try just ending and /flying again. it might help. ...
- so thats basically the scoop on warping. ....
-
- now, for quick intros ...
- I am also known as LK or Lord Kalvan ...
- I do the Mac programming and most of the host. ...
- John aka Sgt Dude, does the Atari ST programming ...
- and Dave, who unfortunately isn't here tonight ...
- does the PC and Amiga programming. ...
- so REALLY specific PC or Amiga questions may have to wait. ...
-
- Ok, I guess I'll open the floor for questions ...
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ironman, you first
-
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> I was online just before this and entered a stallfight
- with another Spit...!
- and the warping was NON-EXISTANT!
- ga
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> great!
- <[caligula] S.EVANS6> so warping is fixed?
- <[Ridge Runner] DARK.EMPIRE> I was also in that fight and agree...no warps
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thats what I like to hear!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, M.KELLER1 is next ga
-
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> kelton, everyone is concerned about warps...
- would you describe what a warp on radar or in your view...
- should look like? so we can get rid of the "imaginary warps"
- ga.
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, i'll describe a little of the "physics" of a warp ...
- a warp will happen whenever the information that reaches your micro ...
- disagrees with the data your micro got a second earlier, and has been ...
- busy drawing on your screen. ...
- that can happen for a couple of reasons ...
- some normal and some not ...
- first the normal ones ...
- if you are tracking someone in a stall fight, for instance ...
- and the other fellow reverses the direction of his turn ...
- it takes a few seconds for that information to make its way through ...
- the network and the host to you ...
- so when you get the news, your machinbe thinks "oops, he's going THATTAWAY!"
- and you see him jump ...
-
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ! - I'm surprised it works as good as it DOES! ga
- (sorry)
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> if things are reigned in well, it'll be a fairly smalljump ...
- but it'll *always* do that, till we have ISDN and 56,000 baud into ...
- everyones home. ...
- a warp can also be caused by someone having bad network response ...
- if he's slow, his screen will warp, and anyone who sees him ..
- will see him warping. ...
- thats also "normal", but if there's a network problem we or GEnie ...
- can sometimes find it. ...
- the abnormal warps we've seen lately ...
- are caused by either REALLY bad system performance, like a month ago ...
- or software problems. THOSE we fix as fast as we can nail em down. ...
- the whole reason we're going through all this ...
- is that we've added some new capabilities to the new version ...
- that, when we get the glitches out, should be smoother than ever. ...
- but, alas, there are a few glitches. ...
- does that explain em better? ga
-
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> yes. but how "big" a jump onscreen is "normal"?ga
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> soooo - what does delays, history, and trips actually
- MEAN from ESC D? and...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> uhh, if the bogey jumpos from mid-screen off screen ...
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> what DOES esc Q do?????? <ga>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thats bigger than we'd like. ga
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> ahhhh
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> haha right. thanks.ga
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! I've got some film of that ga
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, esq q ...
- the mac doesn't do esc q, so i'm not sure
- Dave is the person who knows that one, alas. ...
- i think it measures line noise. ...
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> <sigh> :)
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> nice talk on warps LK
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ? what does that information mean to me (esc D) ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> esc d i know ...
- esc d tells you really one thing ...
- the "delay" number is basically how long its taking ...
- to get data into the host ...
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> it doesnt tell u about warps
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> delay of 1 is great
- delay of 2 is common
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ? - seconds???
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> umm, yes seconds.
- <R.MATHEWSS> Does that work on all machines?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> if you see anything much worse that 4 or so ...
- let us know so we can have GE check your network path. ...
- the trips and history are just counters of how many packets have gone ...
- not real important. ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ? so why were warps worse for me ltonite then last nite? ga
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ! - thanx
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> almost no warps last night late
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> warps were worse tonight than last night because your
- network path ...
- tonight was a little sloppier than last night ...
- the delay, which is an average, may have been no worse. ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! yes, delay was 2 for me ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> but the individual packet than the host and micro exchange ...
- to get started did badly. ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! I'll try that re-taking off thing ga
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> R.MATHEWS -> I think ESC D is standard among machines..
- .
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we're working on a micro fix that'll be able to adjust
- properly for that. ...
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> <ga>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> that'll be in the next round of updates, whenever they are
- ready. ...
- bug fixes and all :(
-
- ok, T.FAHEY4 is next I think
- <T.FAHEY4> i'd like to know how to load ammo on a mosquitq
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! YEA how 'bout that poor Skeeter? ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, on the mossie ...
- we're modelling the Mosquito Mark XVI bomber ...
- which was the late war successor to the Mark IV. ...
- it didn't carry any guns, could carry 4 500 lb bombs or 1 4000 lb
- there were dozens of other mossies ...
- fighter bombers, night fighters, photo recon planes, and so on ...
- we felt that it might be interesting to use the unarmed bomber ...
- since we don't have anything like that. ...
- y'all will note that it *does* have a pipper ...
- so should a fighter bomber or ground attacvk version be needed ...
- for a campaign or special event, we can do it. ...
-
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! I'd love to stall fight an FW in Mossy ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i know
- thats precisely why I did what I did :)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (boo) hehehe
-
- <T.FAHEY4> ok so no guns on the mossie.... what is the purpose of c-47?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> C-47 drops paratroops, has nothing to do with the mossie
- c-47 isn't a bomber in the usual sense, its a transport.
- <T.FAHEY4> ga
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, Fool is next ...
-
- <[Fool] J.HOLLINGSW1> thanks...
- is bullet time of flt now taken into account?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes
- its half time just like the flight of the planes ...
- so it takes 2 seconds real time to hit at 800 yards.
- <[Fool] J.HOLLINGSW1> IE no more kills at 1000yds at 300kts
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> budman tells me we'll be talking about the new gunnery next
- week ...
- in the training session. ...
- they'll be a LOT harder ...
- because the way the new gunnery works is it computes how close the bullets ...
- pass to the target. ...
- whereas the old stuff computed the angle ...
- so the new gunnery gets narrower and narrower the farther away you get. ...
- you can see that by adjusting your pipper range, thats what its telling you.
- <[Fool] J.HOLLINGSW1> ok thanks ga
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> Fang is next ga
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! which Spit wing is this? I have 2 types of Mk. IX wing in
- my book...
- there's a "B" type with 4 20mm cannons, and a "C" type with
- 2 cannons and 2 .50 cal. MG, no 30cal
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> umm the E wing has 2 20 mm cannons and 2 0.50 cal ...
- I'm almost certain the C wing has 2 20 mm and 4 0.30's ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! right, sorry, th e E wing
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we're using the E wing ...
- which came into use later in the war. ...
- it turns out the lethality, i.e. effectiveness ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> lethality is nil with MG
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> of the 2 0.50 calibers is higher than the 4 0.30's ...
- yet the weight is lower, thats why they switched. ...
- <[Fool] J.HOLLINGSW1> is this info in the AW manual?
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! I took 9 count em 9 hits from MG, and NOTHING...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> yes, Fool
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes, it is
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> good - I finally ordered one :) <ga>
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> when is cannon out? ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thats in manual too ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (it hasn't come yet)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> cannon is out at about 50%
- <[Fool] J.HOLLINGSW1> 50%
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> maybe 45%
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> page 76
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (still waiting for manual)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yeah about 48% , thereabouts ...
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, cary is next ga
- <[Cary] CGEE> thanx...
- Can armored vehicles be destroyed from the air? ie: bombs, cannons,
- mgs...
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes ...
- bombs will definately kill, but it may be tricky to hit ...
- such a small moving target. ...
- cannons can kill from short range. ...
- i've gotten a few confirmed tank killings with Fw 190's ...
- the code has the provision for a 40mm cannon ...
- should be ever want to add a real tank killer ...
- effective range with a fw 190 is about 150 yards ...
- with 0.50 machine guns ...
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> (you have to use the FOrce)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> yes, Luke
- <[Cary] CGEE> hehe-ok, thanx.
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> how close?
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> !-But killing tank with FW used up half my ammo.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (Hurricane tank killer)
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ouch -tanx... ga
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> !-whew! no wonder!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> you can kill a guy sitting in top ...
- and can poke a hole in the gas tank (the soviets put the fuel ...
- outside for reasons known only to them) but thats all. ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (happened to me)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 0.30 machine guns can't damage tank at all. ...
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> D.CHRIEST is next ga
- <D.CHRIEST> What is the command to deploy troops from the C47?
- How can a neutral island be captured, and how long will it stay that way?
- Can you upload a complete list of commands for Air Warrior to the
- library, including the new vehicles? Please? ga
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> buy the manual <grin>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, the troops are ejected from the C-47 by telling them ...
- to go over the intercom ...
- the command is *g ...
- so you hit ' *g then return ...
- that makes one guy jump ...
- they won't jump below 500 feet. ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (I wouldn't either)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> neutral fields are captured ...
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ! - it IS neat to watch! :) <ga>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> by knocking out the critical target ...
- killing any acks in the area ...
- and then dropping 8 troops within 1/4 mile or so ...
- of the field, all in 5 minutes. ...
- the critical target for most of the fields is the tower ...
- the tank garages on the atoll are undefended ...
- so you just drop the troops on them to capture ...
- the field stays captured until someone else takes it ...
- or the game shuts down, like at 8 in the morning when everyone leaves ...
- then it goes back to neutral. ...
-
- <D.CHRIEST> The new vehicle commands are not in the new manual! Sigh. ga
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> manual is great buy, came in two days from ordering...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> M.KELLER1 is next ga
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> in using tracers for gunnery...
- will the tracer "cloud" converge where the pipper is set...
- i.e., the pip is set at 500 and the cloud converges at 500...
- so you know where the tracers and shells are "hitting" (or not) ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> not exactly ...
- the pipper is what is called a "historical sight", more or less ...
- more or less what they had in world war 2 ...
- at least in the mustang ...
- what it does is measure the G forces ...
- and predict where ...
- bullets that are fired NOW will be in one time-of-flight ...
- which is the time it takes for the bullets to go the distance ....
- you have your pipper set to. ...
- if the plane is in a steady maneuver, i.e. steady g's ...
- then the pipper will show where the bullets are going ...
- but only if the flight is steady. ...
- <D.CHRIEST> Sounds like Mr. Shaw's book....
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> it does NOT predict the motion of the target plane in any way.
- ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> true
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> you can move the pipper in and out to guess how much lead you
- need to pull ...
- frankly, i usually ignore the pipper ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> haha
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> and use the seat of my pants and the tracers ...
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> (and the ground!)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> as pappy boyington said ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> (the force)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> go for zero deflection shots ...
- he said almost all his kills were that way ...
- pulling lead is much harder ...
- he left less clear HOW he always got those shots :) ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <g>
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ! use the sun ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> and to answer a question thrown put earlier ...
- yes, you can hit a plane thats below your nose ...
- the bullets you fired are moving in a straight line ...
- they don't care that your nose has moved. ...
-
- Solo is next ga
-
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> not to belabour warps...but...would what fang mentioned about
- "re-taking off"..
- would that have any effect on the host micro interface you were talking about
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> it gives the host a chance to get a better measurement ...
- of the line ...
- its basically another roll of the dice. ...
- we have some changes on the micro that'll make that unnecessary ...
- also ...
- I might add, that the host, starting this evening ...
- retries itself if it doesn't like the first answer ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <kinda like my 1st grade math teacher>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> so I'm not certain that reflying WILL help. ...
- its just a guess based on the comment it seemed worse today
- than yesterday. ...
- T.FAHEY4 is next ga
- <[SoLo] S.LEE19> thanks
-
- <T.FAHEY4> is ammo atomatically loaded on tanks?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes it is
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> (how many rounds?)
- <T.FAHEY4> why can't i fire?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> did you jump to the turret position?
- the driver has no guns. ...
- <T.FAHEY4> do u have to load it while in the tank?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, you just jump to the gun with the jg command ...
- <T.FAHEY4> ok ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> then fire with the mouse button. ..
- L.WOODWORTH is next ga
-
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> three parter...
- Are guns on planes "sighted in" for any particular distance?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok ...
- in a REAL plane, they were usually sighted in for ...
- like 300 yards. the aces usually had them even closer ...
- meaning the streams from the separtate guns would converge ...
- at that point. ...
- if you get a target there, ZAP ...
- air warrior isn't currently doing that, but that'd ...
- be a lethality adjustment on the host ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (oooh set convergance option...drool)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> so we can look at it once we get the bigger issues dealt
- with.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ga part 2
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> 2: What is effective range for jeep gun? Flak gun?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> currently all the guns have the same rough;y 800 yards range .
- ..
- note its not exacxtly 800 yards ...
- because your relative velocity can make bullets travel differently ...
- since the bullets are really being moved now, unlike the old version.
- ga part 3
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> 3: Comment. Some people have been observed trying to
- capture fields OTHER than the former...
- islands. If you can't capture, make sure you are trying at the right field!
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> right ...
- the capturable fields are very special ...
- in that they have the same number in all three countries ....
- thats how they are capturable. ...
-
- G.RESH is next ga
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> tanx
- how long (officially) does rdr stay down (and acks), etc.
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> uh oh
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> hmm?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> just a sec ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> uh oh????
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> (riffling thru code ) ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (tappin foot)
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> break time!
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> zzzzzz
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> <grin - sorry>
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <drumming fingers on table>
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (intent stare)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> 40 it is
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <orders another beer>
- <MSMILLER> 42 _is_ the answer
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> how 'bout them bruins? <grin>
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (looks for 52k modem again)
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> but what is the question
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> 7*6=42
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> ducks
- <MSMILLER> hmmm ... tricky
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, a building stays dead for 5 minutes ...
- a bridge for 10 ...
- radar is dead for 30 min.
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> AND... how come the distance in rear view is 400 MORE
- than "actual"...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, on the range error ...
- the range error comes from network delays ...
- we THOUGHT we could fix it ...
- but alas, thats what caused all the warps ...
- the host was trying valiantly to adjust out the time errors ...
- under adverse network conditions ...
- which alas were pretty much normal under a 40 person load. ...
- so if you see someone at 1200 and you are running away from him ...
- assume he imight be able to hit you ...
- but remember ...
- with the new gunnery at 800 yards he has to be DAMN good ...
- so if you weave a bit, he;ll have trouble hitting you. ...,
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ? so 400yds is consistent error?
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no it depends on speeds and directions ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> a gentle weave is the ticket - reality, what a concept
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thats worst case in a high speed tail chase
- in a slower stall fight its much smaller. ...
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> ! - or do rolling scissors...? <ga>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> that'd work too
- M.KELLER1 is next ga
-
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> 2 quick easy ones...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> how many rounds does the tank cannon have?ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 55
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> and how often will the Europe and Pacific scenery swap?ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> current thought is weekly ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> so we'll go to Pacific on Friday
- Fang is next ga
-
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> I was wonderin...was there any thought to putting wing tanks
- on planes? ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> there really isn't much need with the current ...
- types of terrain and missions ...
- i doubt anyone would want to fly the 4 hours neceessary to make wing ...
- tanks useful . ..
- <D.CHRIEST> +0+0how 'bout plane wings on tanks?
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> <hahaha>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> drive off a bridge, thats works!
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> for awhile
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> pursuader is next ga
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> got a couple..
- after radar takes a hit..do subsiquent hits reset the downtime clock?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> no?!?!?!?????
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> umm, wait ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> if the building is gone, then no
- lemme check if the building is back ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> if radar is dead, it cant be killed any more!
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> kill all the carpenters/electricians 8-}
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> always felt like killing tower had cumulative effect
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> but if building is back & hit again...it should reset (my
- opinion)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> they rebuilding elsewhere!
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> hit the lunch wagon, that will stop them
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[Da Sloth] R.BINGHAM2> Mike, you can mess up construction
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> HAHAHAHAHAHA
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> hehehehe - the bldg is usually back in 5 minutes
- anyway...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> is the building back in five? but radar down for 30?
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> we hit A2 once, it came up right after. So FIELDS don't
- reset.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, i think if the building is back ...'
- then blowing it up again would reset time. ...
- i *think*, in a quick look at it.
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> gawd - I'd love to see the code he's checkin now
- (drool)...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> carpenters are faster than electricians 8-}
- <[Lady in Red] LIR> oh no, thn radar cud be down for hours
-
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> can 8 hits from a tank close a runway?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> umm, no
- lemme check
- thats correct
- a tank cannot kill an airfield or sink a carrier ...
- ga
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> what is tank range? (of cannon)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> range is about 5 kilometers ...
- if you just cranked the gun up and fired ...
- the host uses the actual muzzle velocity of the T-34's gun ...
- and uses a table of air drag to work out where the shell goes ...
- about 5000 yards
- could be farther, but accuracy isn't good at that range
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> (my hats off to you guys - talk about SIMULATION!)...ga
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> danja
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> any cnance for tank scoring? as in fighter, bomber, & wwI
- stuff you have now?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> maybe, i need to think about it...
- its a fairly big change :( ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (no artillery-style gunsight for lobbing 'em either
- on T34)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> any chance of it being retroactive? 8-}
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, not at all, fang,
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> 8-{
- <[Pursuader] JEFFG> ok..switching topics...how much of the FW's ammo is cannon?
- (how many bursts?)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the manual has a table of gun times. ...
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> s.dombrowsky is next ga
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> 3 questions
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> how long are runway closed after being hit
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 30 minutes currently
- all bombs must hit within 5 minutes of each other
- they fill in the craters in 5 mins other wise
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ? is this stuff in that manual we don't have? ga
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> no fang
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, cause this kinda stuff i reserve the right to change ...
- now and then. don't want it down on paper ;)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> hehehehe ok
- (gets white-out)
- oh...sorry (scribbles over it)
- <[Lady in Red] LIR> how many bombs must hit runway?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 8 currently
-
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> how much do you need to use campaign theater
- time that is
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> to participate in a campagn?
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> yes
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> it usually runs about 2 hours
- thereabouts ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> at least 2 hrs
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> can 2 squadrons plan there own missions?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> sometimes longer ...
- and sometimes in two parts.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> sure, they can do a pickup match any time ...
- if they want some of the special features ...
- just send mail to KESMAI ...
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> ok thnx
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i have a mailing i can send out with special commands ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> or, there are a few folks w/CampLdr Priv's who can
- set flags on demand
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i need a couple days notice. ...
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> T.W.ANDERSON is next ga
- <T.W.ANDERSON> ?what about the digtized sound not working for Old Macs?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, it goes like this ...
- Apple changed the sound routines in the newer systems ...
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> get out the violins
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> hehe
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> adding new features and such ...
- <T.W.ANDERSON> hehe
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (turns up guitar)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <sniff>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> they also changed the format of the sound data ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <hanky>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> from whatever the 3rd party cooked up ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <fade in of French Horns>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> in our case 'wave' 's
- to the new 'snd ' resources HyperCard uses ...
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (for those non technical types, this = forget it)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we decided to switch over to ther new routines for 3 reasons .
- ..
- #1 they work faster on the Mac Plus/SE ...
- #2 they work with multifinder
- #3 they work with the deadly system 7.0
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (coming real soon now *cough*)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (laughs hilariously)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <buy a Timex Sinclair>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we decided that it would be best to switch completely ...
- to the new routines. ...
- <T.W.ANDERSON> Jeez!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> if you have a plus or an SE ...
- the newer systems improve the performance of the sound in air warrior ...
- substantially. ...
- its actually a performance win. thats why we decided just to switch ...
- thats System 6.0.2 or later ...
- what mac do you have?
- <T.W.ANDERSON> ?512 upgraded to 2 megs?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (pain ... agony ... suffereing)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> you should be able to run 6.0.2, i think ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> it doesn't work?
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !I do
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> oh!
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !no digitized sound here
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (get a Radius, TW)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> did you download the new files?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> or is the menu entry grayed out?
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !explain new files
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> is "digitized" selected?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> like i was saying about the 'wave' and the 'snd ' resources ..
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !u said old sound is faster...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> there are new sound files up in the lbrary ...
- including some really nifty ones ...
- old sound is faster on Mac II
- new sound is faster on Mac Plus/SE ...
- thats apple for you ...
- <T.W.ANDERSON> So whats the problem?
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !new sound file?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think you need to download the new file, the old one is no
- good anymore.
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !thanks
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> there are 3 up there, a straight conversion of the old one ...
- with a few new sounds ...
- <PROMPT-CRIT> has left.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> a huge 22 Khz file thats really neat ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> and a tank sound file . ..
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (my neighbors HATE that one)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, Dok is next ga
-
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (where dat Corsair file you rpomised?)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> sorry!
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !that p40 sound like a washing machine!
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ok ... a couple things ... quasi-related ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> First, can't seem to hit tanks at all well w/aircraft
- guns ...
- and when I can, nothing much happens. Is this right?
- On the same tack ...
- do you take top armor into account for cannon attacks
- from vertical?
- ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> cannons can kill tanks from like 150 yards or less...
- and I've gotten a few reports of success ...
- the host KNOWS which directions shots are from ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> hits are near-impossible tho - and I'm talking
- point-blank, flaps-down
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> and even knows, or tries, whwat part of a tank the shell hits
- ...
- so it'd be nice to model that, but we're not yet. ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ok ... on a similar line of thought ...
- what are the parameters for blwoing yourself up
- w/your own bombs. I've seen ...
- tanks survive 4 hits w/in 50 yards and I get nailed
- moving away at 300ft and ...
- 250 kts
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <serious shrapnel>
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> slant range from blast is pretty good, soncsidering
- delay on drop
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> kelton?
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> i hear him rustling paper
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ah
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <looking at code>
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <must be a LONG reply!>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think the blast radius is like50 yards
- <T.W.ANDERSON> !
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> so why you get blowed up at 300yds up and 300 yds
- downramnge?
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <hehe, THAT's his problem!>
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> planes don't take much damage, pretty much any touch from a
- bomb ...
- will kill it. tank should die from one direct hit ...
- i think.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> would think it wouldn't have to be THAT direct from 500lb
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> could be net delay, you were closer when the host saw the
- explosion. ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> i think bomb spread is extending below the plane on
- those low runs ... just a ..
- hunch
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> could be.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> there's at least a 2 second lag from when you kick em
- loose to det. ...
- that should be enough time to get to 300+ ft and
- downrange but it ain't
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the bomb does fall in real time ...
- plus a bit of lag
- ok, i can look at where the lags come in...
- and i can't SWEAR I read the blast radius right ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> But bombs moving same speed as plane, right?
- <D.NOVACK> inertia?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> until it hits dirt, then I assume a timed fuse
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> starts out at same speed, but slows quickly
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the tank does have a smaller range.
- bomb falls in parabolic course and speed of plane...
- and along the dive angle ...
- ga
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (technical talk for don't drop bombs at 300ft)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ok ... might wanna play around w/it on 869 and see
- what gives ...
- 300 ft should be fine ... I've seen footage of REAL
- low-level stuff
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yep!
- rgr, let me know, dok!
- ok, garos is next ga
- <R.WINSLOW> Three parts (1) Is the roll rate 1/2 time or full time?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> roll rates is full time ...
- a decision we made early on to keep the planes ...
- fairly responsive ...
- that showed the rates were higher than we thought. ...
- (i droning on a bit)
- they are mighty quick on the fw and sabre.
- that was before we had the more accurate data we have now ...
- ok #2 ...
- <R.WINSLOW> You mentioned that HQ was critical target re field capture....
- ...so what is/are exceptions?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the 5 capturable airfields have have towers ...
- that must be destroyed ...
- the 2 capturable garages don't.
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> 5?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (3 ETO, 2 PAC)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 3 in europe and 2 in the atoll
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (goes outside to see where cat is in relation to the skunk
- he smells)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the 3 airfields that used to be on the islands ...
- in the current terrain ...
- are capturable, as they always were intended to be. ...
- 2 in the atoll in the pacific layout are the same ...
- and 2 garages in the atoll can also be captured ...
- they have no defenses, so the action will be heavy around them :)
- ga garos, part 3
- <R.WINSLOW> (3) the pipper is now plotted only within sight box....
- it would be instructive for us all if they were....
- plotted outside as well. Prospects?
- ga
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (unauthentic)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (that what tracers fer)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thats to model the fact that the pipper is an optical image ..
- .
- in a small piece of glass in front of the pilot ...
- when it goes off the glass, he can't see it. ...
- the size of the rectangle was somewhat arbitrary.
- <R.WINSLOW> Yes, I understand. It's a good model, but...
- I was thinking of the instructional value of outside plotting, since..
- we dont have a flight school available. Ga
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> tuesday night flight school
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think the tracers probably do that better
- especially in playback mode :)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (tracers much more useful to get "feel" of it)
- <R.WINSLOW> Thanks, LK, ga next
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> bullet is next ga
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> 3 questions
- <[John] SGT.DUDE> last call formal question list
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> 1) why doesn't the mosquito have a fwd gun?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok we already did that, so real quick ...
- we're using the Mark XVI unarmed bomber version ...
- because I wanted to mix the planes up a bit :)
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> ok
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <so this game doesn't get renamed "Mosquito Warrior">
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> 616 Squad.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (also too dangerous to put up Mosi w/guns w/me around
- :)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> next part ga
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> 2) Why doesn't the person dropping troops get any pts?
- because i didn't code that when i put it together ....
- i kinda figured that the taking iof the field ...
- would be enough of a rewrd
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (random pts for dropping chutes could be used to
- cheat too)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> watchin the Paras is enough of a reward Kelton
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we can think about points when things calm down a bit :)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> :-)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> and good for chaff too 8-}
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> very true, dok, it'd need some thought
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ga part 3, bullet
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> 3) What is maximum number allowed in squad ?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> 16
- <[Cougar] R.LINCICUM1> 16 still?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> 16
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (oops ... sorry ... I not answerin .. habit)
- <[Bullet] S.DOMBROWSKY> Will ever be lowered?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i don't see the need to lower it at this point.
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ga guy.resh
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> Thanx - is the Covox board stereo? (i.e. how does it
- compare to stock Amiga?) ...
- I was thinkin of gettin one so PC at work is as "great!"
- as my Amiga at home :) ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, we think its not stereo
- dave would know, send mail and we can check
- btw ...
- the next amiga version supports stereo samples, so i am told. ...
- <[Cougar] R.LINCICUM1> GREAT!!!!
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (snicker)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> <aarrrggghhh>
- <[Info Maniac] GUY.RESH> just in time for my Amiga 3000! :) thanx!
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ironman next, ga
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> On the sound subject...
- Has your IBM guru gotten a Sound Blaster yet?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, not yet
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> :-( GA.
- <D.NOVACK> speaking of IBM...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the sound blaster is the synthesizer ...
- that doesn't do what we want
- never mind
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (guru = one who can read the manuals)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the dud is correcting ,me
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> the "dud?"!!!
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> Huh? It does DMA digital sound!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the "game blaster" is the one that dikdn't work
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (guru = one who ignores the manuals)
- <D.NOVACK> I thought guru = one who tried...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> rgr
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> sound blaster is the good one
- you are correct larry
- and no, we don't have it yet.
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> GA
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> d.novack is next ga
- <D.NOVACK> dloaded w/ymodem IBM 386sx p command bounces me out to dos...why?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> when you bail out you get dumped to dos?
- how much memory do ytou have?
- <D.NOVACK> 4 meg
- no, p direct should flip instrument panel to prior messages right?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> correct, that bombs you out?
- well, i can't answer that, if you send feedback to KESMAI, i'll
- present it to the PC programmer <grin>
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (helps the buck go bye)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> what does F2 do?
- <D.NOVACK> f2 does same
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> rgr
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> damned if i know, i'm lucky to keep up with the ST
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> hehehehehe
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> I like you more and more Kelton 8-}
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> ? F2 and P are supposed to do the same thing, Kelton.
- <D.NOVACK> very consistant!
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok M.KELLER1 is next ga
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> 3 quickies related to previous discussions...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> can acks depress enuf to hit tanks?ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes
- currently
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> big time
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the German 88 was a much feared weapon
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> is it best to attack tanks with FW from low/behind run?ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> against tanks and anything else they pointed it at
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> that's an 88 now!?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> well, i'm just using it as an example
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> so it didn't seem to unreasonable that the ack would shoot at
- a tank.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> what guns are ack? oh...prolly in manual huh
- <R.WINSLOW> no
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> as i commented on to dok's question ...
- we don't currently model directional armor in the tanks ...
- but i'd like to some day.
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> Ack took 20 hits to kill me, but they DID kill me.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> I've taken 10-20 ack hits in tank
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (ain't no 88 then)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> could Dok's problem re: blowing himself up with bombs...
- be related to the previously mentioned "400 yard" mistake...
- in chasing vs chased aircraft?ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> not directly ...
- but unless he changes course when he goes over the blast ...
- (provided alt is low) ...
- the host will see the blast, and due to delays ...
- tell him about it a few seconds later, when he's farther away.
- its a related issue.
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> if he thinks he is 300 yards ahead of blast...
- the blast may "see" him as right there.
- oh well, thanks
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no, that specific problem would only occur with 2
- player-operated moving objects
- tanks don't move fast enough to cause much error
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> oh
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (welllllll ........)
- (les warpes, n'est pas)
-
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, last formal question is r,grozier ga
- <R.GROZIER> 4 questions..one at a time
- anything new in campaign theater?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> we have some new capabilities for the campaign manager ...
- like controlling where different planes can take off.
- i haven't written up the docs yet.
- <R.GROZIER> i'd be interested in the new stuff
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <puts in request for new docs>
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> will it be in the library?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i.e. campaiugn manager can specific b25s on carriers if he
- wants.
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> ,BIG Grin!>
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> 25s on carriers
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i generally mail it out via email
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> b17's from carriers
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> hhmmm
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ie 30 sec. over Tokyo
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i suppose it would be good to upload it.
- <R.WINSLOW> yes, good
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the format of the log file is improgved also, you can tell
- who shot who.
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> great
- <R.GROZIER> sounds good-would like new commands if you don't upload them
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (this all new to poor Fangster)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> <STILL hasn't seen his log from Feb 17>
- <R.WINSLOW> you're on a roll LK
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> (i know larry, SORRY)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, next part?
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> poor larry
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (log files .... phft)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> :-)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> (i try again to upload it)
- <R.GROZIER> question 2-from previous question i assume you dont figure in
- different armor thickness(frontal vs. back)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> that is currently correct.
- <R.GROZIER> what about a tank destroyer?
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> interesting...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> well, something like an il-2 is on the list...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> for something that'd be interesting ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> After the PT Boat, I hope!
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> hehehe that's a good one Larry
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> but we ran out of time this update. my cohorts said ENOUGH :)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (Sturmovik will be way fun)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> WE said ENOUGH
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> DESTROYERS, CRUISERS, BATTLE SHIPS
- <R.GROZIER> last question-this going to be filed
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> FULL CREWS
- AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (house boats)
- <R.GROZIER> in library?
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (goes crazy)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> yes it will
- tomorrow I hope
- <R.GROZIER> you guys are doing a great job-keep it up
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> thanks!
-
- ****** end of formal conference ******
-
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> ????
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> yeah!
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (big?)
- <R.WINSLOW> <informal question> in answer to prev question; u missed ack down
- time??
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ??
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (hi et)
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (big ? he forgot to ask earlier)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ack down time is 30 min I think
- <R.WINSLOW> ET!!
- <R.WINSLOW> tnx LK
- <J.KANEGAWA1> hi all
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (thats real important)
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ok, i'm kinda tired ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> 1 more ?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i;ll take a few more
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> (about why you can't get crew across bridge in tank)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> yeah!?!?!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> have you tried it tonight fang?
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> ooops.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> well...er...(looks ashamed)...uh
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the crew is running into the bridge
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the warp fix mighta helped it.
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> not actually TRIED tonite
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> go try
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> !
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> ga dok
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> come back and report
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> I shall
- <[Fang] J.FAULKEN> has left.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ok ... I've put a lot of effort and an impending
- ulcer into the RT vis-a-vis ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> god! i was only joking!
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> :-)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> new scoring / cmapiagn area / no-scores night et al ..
- ..
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> anything happening w/all that? and, what would help
- from our end?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ga
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the tours have had a fair amount of thought ....
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> yeah tours
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> but i ran out of time to get em in right away in this update.
- ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> since its a host thing it can happen later. ...
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> Cool!
- <R.WINSLOW> ...but will it?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> as I think John mentioned in the RT ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the campaign area is something we feel we MUST have at some
- point.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> again its a matter of finding time.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> what abvout a no-scores night? ANYTHING to lessen the
- ELO-madness even fer ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> one night a week.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i haven't thought much about the no score night, thtsd too new
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> need to chat with the crew about it.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (sigh)
- <R.WINSLOW> Cant be worse than jet nites
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehe
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think the discussion you've been holding in the RT has been
- quite helpful ...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> no doubt about it.
- <R.GROZIER> when will jets be available?
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> I am still disapointed that no ELO reset w./this new
- vers
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> thanks ... i do try
- <J.KANEGAWA1> !!
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i got beaten up in email about it, dok, last week
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> WHAT???
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> so I blew it off for a while. :(
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> i know ... but lotsa folks were expecting (HOPING)
- for it
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> some people didn't like the idea of a reset.
- <J.KANEGAWA1> i thought elo reset would have been appropriate
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> and some really wanted it but didn't send you hate
- mail
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> well anyway, i want to have significant changes to it,
- likeranks, and maybe tours.
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> scores should be reset once a year, like taxes!
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> Hmph! I woulda cared less, one way or the other.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> true, its a hate mail voting contest (sigh)
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> Hall Of Fame would make this decision mucho easier
- <J.KANEGAWA1> new gunnery makes game a lot different
- <R.WINSLOW> How about attitude gyros and independant controls options?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> very true, it woulda been a good time.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> those are things i may find time to do some day, garos ...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> give one month to practice, then reset
- <R.WINSLOW> sigh
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> or, as before, a "scratch" campaign
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> the flight model does still need some work,.
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> yeah! Bring on the snap rolls!
- <J.KANEGAWA1> what are your feelings about a hall of fame, lk?
- <R.WINSLOW> Just strange to have the flight controls of an Ercoupe
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i think its a good idea, but i haven't had a specific thought
- enough...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> would it be too late to make this campaign's scores
- just get dumped?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> to galvanize me to do it.
- <J.KANEGAWA1> cc
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> well if i reset this camopaign and post last camopaigns
- scores...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> it'd have that effect ...
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> that'd help - just announce that this is a "practice"
- campagn so people can...
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> but then all the folks flying for elo now would scream theuy
- were ripped off
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> LEARN
- <R.MATHEWSS> is here.
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> as they were before. we're just gonna have to bite the bullet.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> how many fly for ELO vs./ how many want/need to learn?
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> i only wanted to bite one at a time :)
- <[Larry] L.WOODWORTH> hehee
- <J.KANEGAWA1> perhaps you should make id #'s visible to enemy...
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> let 'em rebuild their elo. this isn't Dungeons & Dragons.
- <J.KANEGAWA1> then people would really know what its like to fly for elo
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> good point.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> ELO-hounds more vocal is all ....
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> maybe id #s should be visible at 500 yds.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> lotsa hot players need the room to learn right now
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> true
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> Illwind was having a terrible time other nite
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> he's not alone in being frustrated, i think
- <R.WINSLOW> ahem, and some not so hot as well.
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> (sigh) ... ELO wins again ... (no knock, just
- frustration showin)
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> i very frustrated
- <[DoKtOr GoNzO] MSMILLER> hehe
- <[Kelton] KESMAI> anyway, i gotta get up early, so i need to head on out/
- <[mike] M.KELLER1> and i not so hot
